Science, Page 13

The students explored ultraviolet light and the effects of various lotions on UV light by using "UV Beads".

Sarah_Allie.jpg (84422 bytes)

Sarah and Allie determine the color their beads will turn in UV light.

Jam_Clare_Steph.jpg (181662 bytes)

Jamie, Clare, and Stephanie record some control data.

Jason_O.jpg (93303 bytes)

Jason is quite intrigued by the magic of Physical Science.

Brian_Justin.jpg (198651 bytes)

Brian and Justin prepare to record some data.

8-1_1.jpg (171856 bytes)

Jeremy, Ross, Molly, and Caleb test out their lotions for UV protection.

Jason_Mark_Mike.jpg (170652 bytes)

Mark gives the crazy photographer an interesting look as he waits for the picture to be taken so he can go inside and finish his lab!

3K's_1.jpg (163498 bytes)

Kayla, Kim, and Kaylee try to determine which beads are best protected from UV rays.

Eric_Z.jpg (137451 bytes)

Eric gets a close look at his beads.

Clare_Jam_Steph.jpg (141720 bytes)

These ladies have talent! They're writing their data down without even looking! And I believe Clare is writing with her pen upside down!!!!!

8-3_Boys.jpg (158768 bytes)

The guys of section 8-3 put their heads together to try to figure this one out.

8-3_1.jpg (158026 bytes)

The scientists of section 8-3 attempt to find the best lotion to defeat those nasty UV rays.

This is the final lab during which I took pictures. It has no actual name, but the premise is simple: Design an object that will fly, and build it using craft sticks and hot glue. There are many flying toys, from Frisbees to boomerangs. During this lab, the students found out that objects of many designs can be thrown, but not all will fly!!!!!

8-2_Glue.jpg (125557 bytes)

Section 8-2 works intently on constructing their models.

8-3_1.jpg (117325 bytes)

Jordan, Donavon, and Mark were quite interested to see if their ideas would fly.

8-4_1.jpg (115401 bytes)

Claire watches her fly (onto the roof, I think) as Jason tries a different technique: throwing it up. Mark is looking suspicious, as usual.

Caleb_Ben.jpg (92725 bytes)

Caleb retrieves his as Ben launches one.

Eric_W.jpg (58426 bytes)

Eric's tends to fly a tad low.

Gina.jpg (82909 bytes)

Gina enjoyed testing hers a lot, but it broke. So, she gladly repairs it!

8-3_2.jpg (118975 bytes)

Val, Ashley, and Kayla discuss some ideas as they share a glue gun.

Joe_B.jpg (115213 bytes)

Joe launches his model.

8-3_3.jpg (111905 bytes)

Such cooperation is rarely seen this late in the school year! Impressive!

Nate.jpg (101319 bytes)

Nate tests his as people in the background mill about in confusion....

Katie_Kim.jpg (130292 bytes)

Kim watches hers climb, and Katie gets ready to fire hers right at me!

Kyle.jpg (62631 bytes)

Kyle's design gains height quickly!

Mara_Caity.jpg (125215 bytes)

Mara and Caity display their creative designs.

Mark_K.jpg (71103 bytes)

Mark seems happy with his model.

Matt.jpg (67444 bytes)

Matt's design didn't gain much height (no pun intended), but it sure had the speed!!!!

8-3_4.jpg (116669 bytes)

Finished with her model, Kim waits patiently for others to head out for the test flights.

Austin_Treed.jpg (290220 bytes)

Some people just didn't get the concept of throwing away from the trees. Luckily, Austin is willing to lend a hand.

Steph_Tie_Shoe.jpg (146874 bytes)

Some people just give that little extra. Here, Joe runs to retrieve his model! Stephanie gave so much, her shoe came untied! Of course, she then had no energy left to tie it herself! Thank goodness for Jamie!
